    iPhoney

iPhoneyHere we go, a desktop development environment for the iPhone.

iPhoney gives you a pixel-accurate web browsing environment—powered by Safari—that you can use when developing web sites for iPhone. It’s the perfect 320 by 480-pixel canvas for your iPhone development. And it’s free.

iPhoney is not an iPhone simulator but instead is designed for web developers who want to create 320 by 480 (or 480 by 320) websites for use with iPhone. It gives you a canvas on which to test the visual quality of your designs.

Relates to a 37signals blog post earlier about designing for the iPhone.

It does seem like a good easy thing to design for, as far as restraints are concerned, and it’s awesome to see that there is so much buzz already about developers creating stuff for this new platform. I just can’t wait to get one… I’ll be a while though…

    Microsoft Surface

ms.jpgOn the surface this to me seems like a fantastic idea. Its like something from a Philip K. Dick story, our dreams are finally realized. But then I realize it’s Microsoft that’s behind it and I know in my gut they’ll get it wrong. Reading further it seems they only intend for it to be released for restaurants and casinos… what the? Take a look at the youtube demo of it here and see for yourself. It certainly looks fun but I think the iPhone is a much better use of this type of interface.

    Vista Schmista

Funny conversation “in my head mind you” for an IT manager trying to make a case to his CEO for an upgrade to Vista for their entire corporate operations

“We need to spend $150,000 on the upgrades to vista ultimate.” — “what do we get for that money?” — “well. the same poor security, a giant backdoor to operations information, IE7, some shiny interface trinkets, and some other stuff.” — “what other stuff?” — “beta level software bugs.” — “yeah, no.”

At least that’s how I imagine it would go…
