Our client Visual Ice Marketing00 gets some great coverage in Advertising Age’s online publication adage.com, check it out for the full feature

Thanks to a technique CBS calls Visual Ice, shoppers will see the name of the series and its premiere date, which is Friday, on the door of a supermarket freezer. When the door is opened, the image of a moon and the lead character, Alex, become visible.

If you build it, they will not come

Midlandsbiz.com recently asked me to write a “business advice” article for their online magazine. Hopefully it can help someone out there understand online marketing a little better.

“I often ask my clients when we are starting a new website project, what are your plans to let people know about your website? Almost every time they have never thought about it”. Gene Crawford, President and co-founder of Period Three, a full-service web-design agency in Columbia, discusses practical ways to improve traffic to your website.

    More “ize” me

    Posted by Gene in Marketing

LegoizeNot quite as cool as the Simpson-ize thing earlier in the summer, but the Lego-ize is fun as well (even though it doesn’t appear to be made by Lego, they should give this guy some money for it though…). These are great little marketing tools for your product. I can easily see someone sitting here for hours making Lego people of their friends and family.

    SEO-Browser.com

Found this very nifty little web-app www.seo-browser.com. Go there and run your home-page through it, you’ll see the page as a search engine or text-only browser will see it. Very helpful for SEO Marketing projects for sure.

    Finally.

    Posted by Jay in Marketing

Have you ever been typing in Word and wondered, “If only there were an inline ad for Viagra in my document.” Or maybe… “I really love playing those ‘punch the monkey’ games, I wish Excel could let me know where to find them.” Well, Microsoft wants to make that a reality by sending ads anywhere and everywhere on your computer, based on things on your hard drive such as:

user document files, user e-mail files, user music files, downloaded podcasts, computer settings, computer status messages (e.g., a low memory status or low printer ink)

They’ve patented it! The “mother of all adware“.

[A patent] for an “advertising framework” that uses “context data” from your hard drive to show you advertisements and “apportion and credit advertising revenue” to ad suppliers in real time

    Furthermore:

The benefit to the user is the perception that the ads are more relevant, and therefore, less of an interruption. The benefit to the advertiser is better focus and a higher chance of conversion to a sale.

    Thanks, Microsoft.

Top 10 local online markets in the US

    Posted by Gene in Marketing

http://www.netratings.com/Not really sure if anyone cares about this sort of thing but me, but recently while reviewing some statistics and such I came across Neilsen//NetRatings top 10 local online markets in the us. They track the top 10 markets by time spent online and unique visitors. Click the image on the right for a zoomed in view of the ratings table. There’s nothing really out of line there from what you’d imagine if you just thought about it in terms of population. But it’s just neat to see how the major US cities stack up against each other in terms of time online.

The data are part of the MegaView local set. Nielsen//NetRatings uses a random-digit-dial panel and metering technology to report audience measurement and advanced tracking. Whatever that means.

    Simpsons Movie Avatars

I just love the viral marketing strategies that movie studios employ to get the word out about their upcoming flicks. I’m also a HUGE Simpson’s fan and can’t wait for the movie to come out. The functionality they’ve rolled out on the simpsonsmovie.com website is simply irresistible. You could lose yourself for hours just sitting there creating Simpson-esque avatars for all your friends.

    300 Viral Marketing

    Posted by Gene in Marketing

The 300Often I’ll consult with one of our clients on the use of viral marketing techniques. I’ll tell them that they need to find the points of which people (their fans) are willing to push forward to other people, and help make new fans for them.

The folks who are marketing the film 300 know a thing or two about this subject. A good viral marketing strategy will employ any one or two of these six points.

    1) Gives away products or services
    2) Provides for effortless transfer to others
    3) Scales easily from small to very large
    4) Exploits common motivations and behaviors
    5) Utilizes existing communication networks
    6) Takes advantage of others’ resources

Here’s the example of some viral marketing usage for the movie 300. Maybe some of this can help in your planning for the next marketing campaign you are a part of.
