    Dominos Pizza Tracker

Posted by Gene in Customer Service

This is pretty cool customer service. just launched this “Pizza Tracker” utility off their website to let you know where your pizza currently sits in the delivery process. I’ve never really had it that bad for a Dominos pizza but I imagine someone out there needs their pie right now now…

I always get asked “what is RSS?” and while it’s pretty simple, peoples’ eyes still glaze over, maybe this video by commoncraft will help.

    Sun to buy MySQL

    Posted by Gene in Software

So Sun is going to buy has acquired MySQL, this only looks like a good thing to me, though I do worry that eventually we’ll be paying hefty fees for licenses to MySQL but somehow I sort of trust Sun’s Open Source spirit. Overall it seems like the community is open and happy about the news.

Mark de Visser, Chief Marketing Officer of Zend Technologies released this statement on behalf of Zend.

“This is a very good deal for the open source and web economies. It confirms the success of the LAMP (Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP) stack as a web platform. The valuation of the transaction reflects the broad enterprise adoption of this platform, which is also driving our strong revenue growth at Zend Technologies. We have a long history of working closely with MySQL and are encouraged to see the senior roles the MySQL executives will play at Sun. It gives us confidence that we will be able to work with Sun, like we did with MySQL, to progress the innovation and open standards that power the adoption of the LAMP stack.”

How not to handle your customer service

    Posted by Gene in Business

I love the way the guys at Dreamhost are open and fun about their company and the way the run it is neat. But this is just ridiculous and not the way you handle a screw up of this magnitude. (they have gotten some crunch-press out of it too.)

    Here’s what happened:

Scripts are still running to correct the original problem. Last night, this guy ran a standard billing cycle to clean up stragglers from 2007. Unfortunately, the biller was run for 2008 (December 31st, 2008 to be exact). This caused everyone to be billed as if today was 2008-12-31, wreaking the havoc that we are so sorry you had to be put through.

Needless to say, if you read through the blog comments, there are some none-too-happy campers on there.

10 Things you need to know about CONSUMERS for 2008

    Posted by Gene in Marketing

OMMA (Online Media, Marketing & Advertising) Magazine recently had a truly interesting series of articles, that I felt very relevant to many of our clients. This top 10 list is about your consumers. We complain about them but really where would we be without them…

    1. They’re mouthy (they love you or hate you).
    2. They would rather listen to each other than to you.
    3. They’re moving targets (think cell phones).
    4. They’re snackers, constantly scarfing down tiny chunks of media.
    5. Ads will support your content better than subscription fees.
    6. They love gadgets (widgets, mini-apps, etc…)
    7. They’ve gotten over the privacy thing.
    8. They play games (40% of households have a video game console).
    9. They love online video.
    10. They still use search engines, Alot.
